David I. Kertzer

David I. Kertzer is a prominent American anthropologist and historian, with a specialization in the complex and intertwined aspects of Italian history, including its political, demographic, and religious dimensions. His academic career has been marked by distinguished appointments, notably as the Paul Dupee Jr. University Professor of Social Science, as well as Professor of Anthropology and Professor of Italian Studies at Brown University.
Kertzer's scholarly contributions have been widely recognized, particularly through his book "The Pope and Mussolini: The Secret History of Pius XI and the Rise of Fascism in Europe," published in 2014. This work garnered significant acclaim, culminating in the award of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography.
