Jon Kimche

Swiss journalist (1909–1994)

Jon Kimche was a Swiss journalist and historian, born in 1909. At the age of 12, he relocated to England, where he would later become involved in the Independent Labour Party. His early life in England laid the foundation for his future pursuits, which would intersect with notable literary figures. Kimche's profession as a journalist and historian was marked by his involvement in various intellectual and political circles.

Kimche's career was notable for his encounters with prominent authors, including George Orwell. In 1934-35, he worked alongside Orwell at Booklover's Corner, a bookshop in Hampstead. He later managed the ILP's bookshop, located at 35 Bride Street, near Ludgate Circus. As chair of the ILP Guild of Youth, Kimche traveled to Barcelona in 1937, where he had the opportunity to meet Orwell once again. Kimche passed away in 1994, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy as a Swiss journalist and historian with a fascinating connection to England's literary and political landscape.
