Moses of Évreux

13th century French Tosafist

Moses of Évreux was a prominent 13th-century French Tosafist, hailing from a family of esteemed scholars in Normandy. As the eldest of three brothers, he played a significant role in shaping the intellectual pursuits of his siblings, Samuel and Isaac, who would also go on to become distinguished scholars in their own right. Under the guidance of their father, Shneur of Évreux, the brothers developed a deep understanding of Jewish texts and traditions.

As a respected member of the Jewish community in Évreux, Moses of Évreux made notable contributions to the field of Judaism, particularly through his authorship of a siddur, a Jewish prayer book. Alongside his brothers, he was collectively referred to as one of "the sages of Évreux", a testament to their collective wisdom and scholarship.
