Harpo Marx

amerikansk skuespiller (1888-1964)

Harpo Marx was a renowned American comedian who left an indelible mark on the film industry. Born in 1888, he was the second-oldest of the Marx Brothers, a family of entertainers who would go on to achieve great success in the world of comedy. Harpo's unique comedic style deviated from the verbal humor of his brothers, instead relying on visual elements and drawing from the traditions of vaudeville, clowning, and pantomime.

Throughout his career in film, Harpo Marx developed a distinctive on-screen persona, characterized by his curly reddish-blonde wig and complete silence. He would often communicate through non-verbal means, such as blowing a horn or whistling, adding to the comedic effect of his performances. Marx frequently incorporated props into his acts, including a signature horn cane constructed from a lead pipe, tape, and a bulbhorn. This iconic character would become a hallmark of his career, which spanned many years until his passing in 1964.
