Moose Charlap
American Broadway composer (1928–1974)
Morris Isaac "Moose" Charlap was a prominent American composer, specializing in Broadway productions. Born in 1928, Charlap made a notable impact in the music field, particularly with his work on the iconic musical Peter Pan in 1954. This notable production was a collaborative effort, with Carolyn Leigh contributing the lyrics to Charlap's compositions. The concept for the show originated from Jerome Robbins, who initially envisioned a limited number of songs by Charlap and Leigh.
Charlap's work on Peter Pan evolved into a full-fledged musical, incorporating additional songs by renowned composers Jule Styne, and lyricists Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The original Broadway production of Peter Pan featured esteemed actors Mary Martin as the titular character and Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook. Charlap's contributions to the show cemented his reputation as a talented Broadway composer, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of musical theater until his passing in 1974.
