Peter Gay was a renowned German-American historian and author, born in 1923. He had a distinguished career in academia, serving as a Sterling Professor of History at Yale University. Gay's expertise and contributions to the field of history were widely recognized, and he held prominent positions, including director of the New York Public Library's Center for Scholars and Writers from 1997 to 2003.

Throughout his career, Gay authored over 25 books, showcasing his vast knowledge and insight into various historical topics. Some of his notable works include "The Enlightenment: An Interpretation", "Weimar Culture: The Outsider as Insider", and "Freud: A Life for Our Time", which was widely translated.
