Shalom Buzaglo

Moroccan Kabbalist

Shalom Buzaglo was a prominent Moroccan Kabbalist, born in Marrakesh, who held the esteemed position of Dayan. His travels throughout the Orient, undertaken to collect alms for the impoverished in Ottoman-controlled Palestine, afforded him the opportunity to interact with the leading Kabbalists of his time. These journeys not only broadened his knowledge but also facilitated his connections with influential figures in the field of Judaism.

Buzaglo's experiences extended beyond the Middle East, as he also ventured into Europe, spending a significant period in London. However, his life took a dramatic turn when he was subjected to torture by the Sultan, prompting his relocation to England in 1745. He settled in England, where he would remain until his passing, marking the end of a life dedicated to the pursuit of Kabbalistic knowledge and the betterment of his community.
