Yiḥyah Qafiḥ

Yemenite rabbi

Yiḥyah Qafiḥ was a prominent Yemenite rabbi who played a significant role in the Jewish community of Sana'a, Yemen, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in 1850, he went on to become the Chief Rabbi of Sana'a, earning the respect of his peers and community members. Qafiḥ was a leading rabbinical scholar of his time, recognized for his vast knowledge and expertise in Jewish classical literature.

As a versatile scholar, Qafiḥ's interests extended beyond Jewish studies to include astronomy and rabbinic astrology. He was also a strong advocate for reforms in Jewish education, seeking to improve and modernize the learning experience for future generations. Qafiḥ's lifetime of dedication to his faith and community came to a close in 1931, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most esteemed rabbis of his era, affectionately referred to as "Ha-Yashish".
